TAX BONUS PAYMENTS FROM 6 APRIL

 

The Tax Office will send out tax bonus payments from 6 April 2009 to the bank account or postal address taxpayers provided in their 2007/08 tax return unless these details are updated.

 

Taxpayers who have not lodged their 2007/08 tax return are encouraged to do so by 30 June 2009 in order to be eligible for the payment. However, this deadline is extended to 30 June 2010 to those affected by natural disasters, significant illness or injury.

 

The Tax Office again warned of tax bonus email scams asking for personal information such as tax file numbers, bank or other financial institution account or credit card details.

The Tax Office said under no circumstances should such information be provided to unsolicited emails or to callers falsely claiming to be from the Tax Office.
